The Teaching and Learning Excellence Foundation to launch “Greening Zambia’s Schools: Urban Gardening and Sustainable Waste Management initiative” project. This initiative aims to combat hunger and promote environmental sustainability in schools across Zambia, by implementing innovative practices that empower students and communities.

OUR PROJECT COMPONENTS:

• Creating Food forests: This will be carried with the support of the agencies and individuals promoting good agriculture practices. By utilizing permaculture principles, we will establish food forests within participating schools. These sustainable ecosystems will not only provide fresh fruits and vegetables but also teach students the importance of biodiversity and ecological balance.
• Responsible Waste management and composting: Our project emphasises effective waste management techniques, encouraging schools to recycle, compost, and repurpose organic waste. This practice will facilitate healthier school environments while contributing to the nutrient-rich soil necessary for our food forests
• Entrepreneurship and Marketing Strategies: Alongside agricultural practices we will offer training in Entrepreneurship and marketing strategies. Students will learn how to add value to their produce, developing business skills and market their products effectively, promoting a sense of ownership and responsibility.
• Value addition: This project will focus on value addition to what are grown, teaching students techniques for preserving, processing, and packaging their harvests. This not only enhances the nutritional value of food consumed within the schools but also opens avenues for income generation.

TRANSFORMING SCHOOLS INTO SUSTAINABLE HUBS

By piloting this project in select schools, we aim to create models of sustainability that can be replicated  across Zambia. our goal is to empower students with practical skills that address issues of food security while fostering a culture of environmental stewardship.
